Waxing can seem really daunting if you haven’t ever had it before, or if you have had a previous bad experience.
So we are here to answer all your questions, and put you at ease…
Does waxing hurt?
I would say this is totally relative to each person, and can depend on many factors such as thickness of hair, how many years shaving, skin sensitivity etc (it’s probably best to avoid waxing whilst menstruating as you can be more sensitive to pain during this time).
However as a rule, I would describe the sensation as a ‘sting’. As in there’s a brief millisecond when the hair is extracted that you feel it, but then this instantly subsides. All of our therapists here at Willow are very quick at waxing, so honestly, it’ll be over before you know it!
How long does the hair have to be?
It’s recommended that your hair growth is between 3-5mm in order for us to effectively capture it. In essence, the longer you can leave it to grow, the more chance we have of capturing more hairs.
What wax do you use?
We use a combination of warm and hot wax, depending on the area. We are very proud to use both Caronlab and Outback Organics wax which is incredibly gentle on the skin and specifically formulated to provide the most effective wax possible.
How long does waxing last?
This all depends on how long you have been having waxing for and at what stage we have captured your hair growth. Please check out our post here where we explain more.
What is a brazilian/hollywood wax?
This refers to female intimate waxing. A brazilian is where we take off all of the pubic hair apart from a small line. A hollywood is the removal of all pubic hair. This is something that can be discussed at the time of your appointment with your therapist.
For this we use a combination of warm and hot wax.
Our therapists are very skilled and experienced waxers and have done lots of these types of waxes. I can assure you that there is absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. You may even find that once you’ve had this wax, you’ll never look back!
Why is waxing better than shaving?
Waxing removes the whole hair from the root, whereas shaving cuts through the hair. This is why hair that has been shaved grows back within a matter of days and tends to be thicker and more course. Whereas hair that has been waxed, takes much longer to grow back and tends to grow back finer.
Will waxing cause irritation?
This depends on many factors. However a slight pinkness to the skin and/or small red spots are quite normal and should subside within 24-48 hours. Those with thicker, courser hair might find small bumps at the hair follicle, but again these will subside within 24-48 hours.
Please ensure that you follow our aftercare guidelines for the best results.
What aftercare should I follow?
We always recommend you to wear loose fitting clothing and keep the waxed area clean and dry for 48 hours.
Avoid hot baths, saunas and jacuzzis for 24 hours.
Avoid sun exposure, fragranced moisturisers and heavy exercise for 24 hours.
